Contests!! Don’t we all love contests?

I’m really bad with this blogging thing..I’ve been sewing though, when I have the time. I’ll post a bit more about that later. Right now I wanted to share a contest with you and ask you what you think of them.

Gipsy Dharma is having a contest to give away their product. They make some gorgeous leather boots.

So, if you are a shop owner, do you do contests? Have they drummed up your business? Do you find more people shop with you due to them? If you don’t have them, have you considered it? I’m thinking about it…I just wish I had a little more time.

Where does one get the time???

So, here it is May and actually almost June and if you look at the dates, you’ll see no new posts since APRIL. This is partly because I need to better organize what I’m doing. I have so many things running through my head that I want to accomplish, that many times I accomplish nothing. Have you ever done that? You think, “Oh, I really want to write this and make this and go do this,” but then it’s like “but which to do first? I’ll just sit and play some Collapse for a bit.” Then, it’s bedtime.
It’s only going to get worse. I go back to school in the fall. For those of you that don’t know (and why would you, unless you know me?) I am an account for a non-profit so I can pay my bills, but I have been going to college part time for about 7 years! Yes, 7...

Adventures in Quilting…

So. Quilting. Have you done it? Have you wanted to? I haven’t since I was in middle school.  And then I did it under the watchful eye of my grandmother Dorothy.  It was just your basic square patchwork.  I added the word “BABY” and gave it to my aunt who had just given birth to my cousin, Spencer.  It was small and basic and won 2nd place at the Home Ec competition.  But that was the beginning of the 90’s. (Start your age guessing now!)

Flash forward to the early 2010’s.  I have been trying to turn my creative impulses into something that can support me.  (I am an account for a non-profit and the office setting is starting to get to me.)  I am always trolling fabric shops like JoAnn and Hancock Fabrics.  Well, I found a new independently owned shop in Lawrence Kansas called Sara...

What Do You Do With It?

One of the things I hope to achieve with this endeavor is to share ideas with others.  I would like to offer up the opportunity to to learn from each other, pick each others’ brains and such.  Thus begins, “What do you do with it?”.

In this (hopefully) regular column, we’ll discuss how we use things.  All kinds of things, including social media, hardware, equipment, advice and any other thing you can think of. Send in suggestions, questions; I’ll put it out here for the masses. Use the comments or email me at

What The Hell Is A Funmentionable?

Well, that is a very good question!  It’s a cloth menstrual pad!  Now, before you click away in disgust, give me a minute.

I haven’t ever really considered myself a feminist in the traditional sense.  I’ve had many a long arg- er, discussion with other women and some men regarding this.  However, I do feel that there are certain aspects of being not only a woman but also a human that we are WAY too concerned with their bodies and in my opinion, too grossed out to realize that it’s all normal.  All of our secretions and functions, as long as they are normal, are something we should be glad are happening.  It means we’re alive and well!

I was also a teenage girl once, so I understand being uncomfortable with all those “weird, icky” things our bodies are contending with...

Ever So Slowly, I Get This Off The Ground

This has been soooo long in the making.  I’ve been working on my Funmentionables for years.  I had a great idea, I’ve researched and tweaked and tried them out and tweaked some more.  I’ve bought equipment and then had to tweak some more.  I’ve gotten sidetracked by other things I want to make.  Then there was always life going on.  You know; work, school, family, etc.

So many tools have grown since I started my endeavor.  Social media is now through the roof with options: Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, Google+, Tumblr, Flickr and a myriad of others.  Sites to help you start your business: IndieGoGo, Kickstarter and more.  Sites to help you sell your wares: Etsy, Artfire, Amazon; just to name a few...
